The story of Lena baker...Film

Image
A hidden story from the past. The first black woman to be tried and executed in Georgia. Lena's story is compelling and emotional look at the struggle for black women during this time of struggle. This film is recommended and hopefully you will bring her story to life and in your heart.

Have you forgotten what racism looks like.... Warning...shocking images

After watching these old films, reading the books and seeing where we are headed listening to new attitudes and blame shifting.I thought a quick reminder of what racism once looked like and why people fought so hard to end it was required. This was an awful time. Let's not be comparable.

I am a slave...film

Image
This film is not only a portrayal of racism, but also of losing ones basic human rights. What makes this film shocking is that it is a modern story based on the very real horror of slavery in 21st century. Another blog topic for a different day. Watch someone's story come to life on screen and marvel that it is a true story. I am a slave is a story of hardship, and hope. We'll recommended and only 1 scene that I had to turn away from.

Glory Road

This is another film based on a true story of the first black basketball team to play professionally. I'm sure all the big league players from this century know all about them, but for those who don't enjoy this story and feel proud of their accomplishments. They were well deserved and well fought for.

12 years a slave

This is another slavery based movie! this is a someone true experience being brought to life. This make it a more emotional movie as you connect with the injustices. This film definitely creates weeping moments, there were times I had to look away or brave myself for what was to come. This is a good film starring Brad Pitt, Lupita Nyong'o, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael Fassbender.12 years a slave is a well produced movie which sensitively deal with the topic of slavery, family separations etc . Whilst still depicting the realities of slavery and all it's ills. Recommended but bring those tissues along with you.

Journey to Freedom... Are we there yet?

After watching a few slavery based movies. I can't help but reflect on how life has changed since that dreadful period of time and send God a thanks that this is so. I look at my wonderful husband, and my two lovely children both of African descent and I also send a thanks to God for my brave ancestors and feel my heart swell with pride at the things they faced and defeated. There identities wiped away, their dignity removed and their bodies used as a tool for what I suspect was misdirected anger. Wow what a life they faced and what horrors they had to bore and bear them silently. No one to hear their cries and no who cared even if they did. Where it was every man out for himself.  Thankfully I have long since dealt with the anger and bitterness that I first encountered when reading about black history, especially slavery. Now I am able to watch movies and TV shows, read books and only be astounded by the nature of the time.  As I watched my husband pushing our new baby and

Django Unchained

Despite Django being out from early 2014. I only just managed to see this film and of course due to the nature of it. I felt compelled to write a bit on it. I won't ruin the plot for those who have not yet managed to see this film by revealing too much. It's an excellent film and leaves you with a satisfied feeling that justice has been dealt.   There are some parts I would call winch worthy but this is to be expected for a film based on or involving slavery and slaves.  This film stars Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, Samuel L Jackson and Leonardo Dicaprio.
